About the League

Half-n-Half Fantasy Baseball was founded in 2006 by 8th graders at Solon Middle School as an 8 team league hosted on Yahoo.

In the 20 years since, it has grown and evolved into a cherished part of every baseball season.

This site is a living document to the past, present, and future of the league.

Half-n-Half, long may she reign.

League Constitution

📄 Half-n-Half Fantasy Baseball League Constitution · 2024 Edition

This constitution governs the Half-n-Half Fantasy Baseball League — a 10-team mixed league with traditional 5×5 scoring (AVG swapped for OBP; W+QS will replace Wins when available on ESPN). The ESPN "Undroppables" list applies for waivers and free agency.

ART. I The Auction

  1. Teams must roster 30 players within a $300 auction cap. Teams nominate players in turn; highest bid wins. Teams may only bid to the point where they can fill remaining slots with $1 players.

ART. II Roster Composition

  1. Each team has 30 roster slots.
  2. Hitter slots: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, IF, OF×5, UTIL×2
  3. Pitcher slots: SP×3, RP×3, P×2
  4. 7 bench slots (at least 1 must be a hitter) and 5 IL slots.
  5. Teams must maintain a complete roster at all times (minimum 3 RPs, 1 C). If a dual-eligible player is used as a pitcher, an additional bench hitter is required.
  6. Commissioner may impose transaction embargoes and adjust records for illegal rosters that affect outcomes. Illegal playoff roster: $30 dock per infraction from next season's auction budget.
  7. All 10 owners share responsibility for monitoring rosters; report violations to the Commissioner immediately.

ART. III Keepers

  1. Each team may hold a maximum of 6 keeper contracts.
  2. Contracts due one week before the draft by 8:00 PM ET. Submit to the league message board (timestamp is binding). Multiple submissions allowed; last one is final. Invalid contracts are voided.
  3. Contract salary structures (increase applied on top of player's initial auction salary):
    • 1-year: +$10/season
    • 2-year: +$8/season
    • 3-year: +$5/season
    • 4-year: +$4/season
    • 5-year: +$3/season
  4. Salary for undrafted players: $7 keeper / $1 trade if added before trade deadline; $10 keeper if added after.
  5. Players drafted for <$7, then dropped: $7 keeper if re-added before deadline, $10 if after. Players drafted for $7+ or $10+, then dropped: retain auction salary if re-added before/after deadline respectively. Salary inheritance applies if re-added within two FAAB periods.
  6. No keeper for players added or dropped after the regular season ends.
  7. Contracted players must be rostered at all times. Contract voided upon death; persists (counts against auction budget) upon retirement — Commissioner uses a proxy player to carry those dollars until post-draft cut.
  8. Contracts are transferable in trades. To drop a keeper contract, owner files a petition; requires a supermajority league vote.

ART. IV Free Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB)

  1. Each team receives $200 FAAB. Remaining budget carries over into playoffs. Leftover auction dollars also carry into FAAB.
  2. FAAB claims due 11:00 AM ET daily. Zero-dollar bids allowed. FAAB dollars are not tradeable.
  3. Transaction limit: 7 per matchup period (scales with matchup length). Commissioner corrects illegal lineups caused by transactions; violating team is not refunded the offending transaction count.
  4. No adds after the playoffs conclude.
  5. Salary inheritance: team inherits a player's keeper/trade salary if re-added within 2 FAAB periods of the player becoming available.

ART. V Trades

  1. Trades open from post-auction through the trade deadline (Wednesday after All-Star Game, 6:00 PM ET — processed immediately that day). Also open after playoffs end until the keeper deadline. No trades between keeper deadline and auction.
  2. In-season restriction: cannot acquire more than $15 in salary from one team in a rolling 3-week window. Cannot trade more than 10 players between two teams in a rolling 3-week window.
  3. Trade salaries: continuously-held drafted players = auction value; dropped & re-added after 2+ FAAB cycles = $1; never drafted = $1.
  4. Offseason: teams with 6 keepers must trade away ≥1 keeper contract to make any trade. No other restrictions apply in the offseason.
  5. New owners: 1-year probationary period — trades subject to league veto (simple majority).
  6. All trades subject to Commissioner review plus one "roster lock" review period before going live.

ART. VI Regular Season

  1. 18-week season. Each team plays every other team twice, with 8 weeks between rematches. Scoring: 5×5 head-to-head (each category = W/L/T).
  2. SP games started max: 13 per week (scales). Exceeding the limit forfeits SP stats the following day through end of week.
  3. Pitcher innings minimum: 15 IP per week (scales). Missing it = automatic loss in ERA and WHIP.
  4. Top 4 teams by record make the playoffs. Tiebreaker: head-to-head → roto standings → coin flip.

ART. VII Playoffs

  1. 4-team single-elimination. Each round is 2 weeks. Ties go to the higher seed.
  2. The #1 seed may choose their first-round opponent (3rd or 4th seed). Decision required by last day of regular season; otherwise defaults to 1v4, 2v3.
  3. Playoff limits doubled: 14 transactions, 26 GS, 30 IP minimum.

ART. VIII Prize Money

  1. Entry fee: $400/team ($4,000 total)
  2. 🏆 1st Place: $2,400
  3. 🥈 2nd Place: $800
  4. 🥉 3rd & 4th Place: $400 each

ART. IX Commissioner & Owner Rights

  1. Commissioner may make immediately necessary adjustments within constitutional guidelines.
  2. Owner removal requires a unanimous vote at the annual winter meetings.
  3. Constitutional changes require a quorum of 7 and a simple majority. Ties preserve the status quo.
  4. Issues outside the constitution are ruled on by the Commissioner with league input.
